Food tasting – what you need to know
Wedding planning can be a busy time, but you should make sure to find a moment to taste your food. The catering usually consumes the largest percentage of your budget, so it’s important to make sure that the food is just like you want to serve it your guests.
There are some things you need to consider when you’re going food tasting:
Not many tastings are free, so make sure to ask about the conditions when you’re scheduling an appointment. Be informed about all of your guest’s requirements – does anyone have certain dietary needs or food allergies? How about religious or ethnic requirements?
You may want to bring a copy of the menu and further important points of discussion. The more detailed information you have available, the better you can use your time and adjust some changes to the menu.
Bring the right people
First of all, it’s the taste of you and your fiancé that really matters. But when you’re going food tasting for your wedding, you may also want to bring some friends, siblings, parents or future in-laws. Be careful with the number of invitations! Besides the additional costs, too many opinions can make it difficult to decide on the best options.
If you write the important aspects down during the process, it will help you to refresh your memories when you want to make the final decisions. How did everything taste? How did the caterer present the food? What was good? What didn’t you like at all? Just note any suggestions or recommendations and perhaps take some reference photos.
If you want your menu to succeed, it’s vital to provide lots of feedback. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind. Good chefs are always willing to adapt some changes and challenge the taste buds of you and your guests. Help them to get creative!
Some seasonal items or specialities might not be available at your wedding date or fit into your food budget. Your chef and/or your event consultant are able to offer you creative suggestions and ideas, to put together a delicious menu that is both cost-effective and exciting.
