- A Sit-Down Dinner
Parents really enjoy and appreciate sit-down dinners where everyone is assigned a seat and they are served food at the table. Oftentimes they struggle with food carts or lounge seating because they’re not accustomed to it.
However, if you can change their minds, ensuring them that you prefer more of a cocktail style environment with foods that don’t need a knife, they will ultimately enjoy it too because they’ll see that they can spend more time with their friends. It’s simply a matter of helping them put aside their “traditional” thoughts of how a wedding reception should work.
- Their Best Friends
Parties are much more fun when you’re surrounded by people you like spending time with. Thus, if there’s any way to have your parents’ best friends in attendance at your wedding reception, do so.
After all, your parents are proud of you and this is their big moment too. So, it only makes sense that they will want to share this special time with their friends as well.
- A Moment of Recognition
While the bride’s father (and even the mother today) gets to walk her down the aisle, you don’t want to forget to give the mother of the groom some recognition too. More than likely, she’s helped put together your rehearsal dinner, and many of the other wedding planning events. So, take a moment to make her feel like a star at some point in the evening.
A simple way of making this happen is by having the groom and his mother share a dance together while everyone else is watching and taking pictures. Of course, don’t forget to also have the father-daughter dance.

Unless your parents enjoy going out clubbing, the best DJ in town won’t be as good as having some live music playing. If your budget allows for it, you can have both a band and a DJ at your wedding.
